FF가 처음으로 진행한 오픈콜 #1 “SURPRISE”에 선정된 김진선 작가의 개인전⟪Coexistence : We are all matter⟫가 FF에서 8월 8일부터 8월 28일까지 개최됩니다. ‘다양한 존재가 공존하는 상태’야말로 FF가 지향하는 목표와도 같았으며, 가변적이고 부드러운 연결이라는 지점에서 SURPRISE라는 주제에도 적합하게 부합했기 때문에 김진선 작가의 작업이 FF가 추구하는 철학과 방향성을 충실히 반영했다고 생각합니다.
⟪Coexistence : We are all matter⟫는 ‘우리’라는 존재가 공존하는 다양한 방법을 탐구하는 참여형 설치 전시입니다. 작가는 주로 입체와 드로잉을 통해 일상과 미술사에서 가져온 색, 기호, 조각의 상징을 중첩하고 교차하여 그 의미를 비틀고, 대립하는 상징 사이의 경계를 흐리는 과정을 보여줍니다.
이 흐려진 경계 너머로 맞닿고 엮이는 유기적 형상은 촉각적 감각을 극대화하며, 다양한 존재가 공존하는 상태를 시각적으로 표현합니다. 작가는 공존을 수많은 우리가 불안정한 변화의 순간을 맞이하며 비결정적인 상태로 함께 나아가는 과정으로 정의하며, ‘우리’는 유기체와 무기체 모두를 포함한다고 설명합니다.
이번 전시는 색과 기호, 조각의 상징성과 더불어 관객의 참여를 통해 가변성과 우연성을 극대화하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 천과 실로 만든 매듭은 모듈화되어 전시장을 찾은 관객에 의해 다양한 배치로 이동하고 배열됩니다. 이는 각기 다른 관객의 참여에 의해 작품의 모습이 끊임없이 변화하는 과정을 통해 공존의 의미를 탐구합니다.
전시 기간 동안 관객이 직접 참여하는 워크숍이 개최됩니다. 참여를 원하는 관객은 작가와 함께 새로운 매듭을 만들고, 모듈을 제작하여 전시장에 설치함으로써 공존의 과정을 직접 체험할 수 있습니다. 이 워크숍을 통해 관객은 작가와의 공존을 기록하는 것을 넘어, ‘나’를 구성하는 수많은 ‘우리’를 느끼고 ‘우리’의 의미가 확장되는 순간을 함께할 것입니다.
The solo exhibition ⟪Coexistence : We are all matter⟫ by artist Jinsun Kim, selected for FF's first open call #1 “SURPRISE,” will be held at FF from August 8th to August 28th. The concept of "a state where diverse beings coexist" aligns perfectly with FF's goals and fits well with the theme of SURPRISE, which emphasizes variable and soft connections. Jinsun Kim's work faithfully reflects the philosophy and direction that FF pursues.
⟪Coexistence : We are all matter⟫ is an interactive installation exhibition exploring various ways the entity of "we" can coexist. In this exhibition, the artist uses sculpture and drawing to overlap and intersect symbols of color, iconography, and objects from everyday life and art history, twisting their meanings and blurring the boundaries between opposing symbols.
The organic forms that touch and interweave beyond these blurred boundaries visually express a state where diverse beings coexist by maximizing tactile sensations. The artist defines coexistence as a process in which countless individuals face moments of unstable change and move forward together in an indeterminate state, explaining that "we" includes both organic and inorganic entities.
This exhibition aims to maximize variability and randomness through audience participation, alongside the symbolic meanings of color, iconography, and objects. The knots made of fabric and thread are modular and can be moved and rearranged by visitors to the exhibition, exploring the meaning of coexistence through a process in which the appearance of the artwork continuously changes with each audience's participation.
During the exhibition, a workshop that allows direct audience participation will be held. Interested visitors can work with the artist to create new knots and modules, installing them in the exhibition space to directly experience the process of coexistence. Through this workshop, participants will not only document their coexistence with the artist but also feel the multitude of "we" that constitutes "I" and share moments where the meaning of "we" expands.
김진선
1994년생 김진선 작가는 이화여자대학교 조소를 전공하여 동대학원에서 조소 전공 석사를 졸업하고 조소 전공 박사에 재학중으로, 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 작가입니다. 평면 드로잉과 입체 설치, 그리고 조각 등 다양한 분야를 넘나들며 다양한 존재가 공존하는 상태를 작품으로 드러내는 김진선 작가는 고정되지 않고 의미가 변화하는 색의 특징을 활용하여 우리 사회에 존재할 수 있는 다양한 형태의 공존을 제시합니다.
Born in 1994, Jinsun Kim is an artist based in Seoul. She majored in Sculpture at Ewha Womans University, where she completed her master's degree in Sculpture and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field. Jinsun Kim works across various media, including drawing, installation, and sculpture, to explore states of coexistence among diverse beings. By utilizing the mutable and ever-changing nature of color, she presents various forms of coexistence that can exist within our society.
